I Sure Wish I Could Back Donald Trump

In the last election, I voted Third Party because I have lost faith in both the Democrats and the Republicans. But I must admit, many of the things Donald Trump says seem to be on the right track. However, saying and doing are two different things.

I don’t know Donald Trump, nor have I ever met the man, but I can tell I would like him. I like his style and how he appears to tell us what he really believes. That is also where my problem with him lies.

President Donald J. Trump is a war monger, and I am anti-war. Even though we are close to the same age, I joined the Marine Corps and served for over a year in Vietnam. Donald stayed at home and started on his way to becoming a billionaire. I don’t fault him for that, as we all make choices in life, but I do know that Trump has no way of understanding what he is doing when he sends our troops off to war or keeps the wars he inherited going.

So, here we are again with another president who was raised on Hollywood movies and has not a clue about what sending troops off to combat really means. That is true for our last three presidents - Obama, Bush, and Clinton. All three of them never went to war, but were more than willing to send others off to do something they knew nothing about. Bush lied us into war, Obama was the first president in history to keep us in war for the full eight years he was in office, and Clinton helped kill over 500,000 Iraqi children with his military campaign against the Iraqi people.

No, I don’t think we necessarily need a president who has been to war, but we do need presidents who can see the evil of what we do in our wars, to both those we claim are our enemies and also the evil we do to our own troops by sending them off to wars that are not fought to protect our nation but rather to secure other countries’ natural resources and to keep a 70+ year constant profit flow going to the rich Americans who own our military industrial complex.

I wish I could support Donald Trump. I want America to be great again. I think it is just wonderful that black unemployment is now the lowest it has ever been in recorded history. I feel great that all the construction workers I know have all the work they can handle and people feel good about their future which has not been the case for a long, long time.

No, I don’t know if all of this can be attributed to Trump, but I do know he put us on that path. But on the other hand, he is that war monger. Yes, we do have the most powerful military in the history of the world, and no other country’s military is even close to what we have. But Trump doesn’t think that is good enough, and he has gotten Congress to pour billions of dollars more into the largest military in the world.

I live in North Florida, and any day of the week all year long you can see homeless people walking the roads and highways in our area. Our county has over 500 homeless children that we know of. At first I didn’t believe that number, but after talking to community leaders and groups raising money to help these kids out, I find it is true. We have a total population of only about 19,000, with a student population of 2,611. That means about one in five children is homeless.

I am just using Madison as an example. Did you know that are about 2,500,000 homeless children in our country?

“A new report released Monday shows that about one in 30 American children was homeless at some point last year. That's about 2.5 million kids, and an 8 percent increase to ‘an historic high,’ according to the study from the National Center on Family Homelesness.Nov 17, 2014”

So, like I said, I would like to back Donald Trump, but his priorities about making America great again are not the same as mine. I thought making it great would mean taking care of our own people, but I think Trump was thinking of all the Hollywood movies he watched growing up with the “Sands of Iwo Jima”, and John Wayne being a fine example. I bet Trump loves dress uniforms and those shiny medals and polished brass.

Like many world leaders in the past, Trump knows how to get people excited about what he claims he wants to do, but also like those past world leaders, Trump sees himself more as the Commander-in-Chief rather than president and that should scare all Americans.
